What makes you happy?

I was looking at the Housewives of Orange County last week. I remember seeing one of the housewives saying "it's not how much money you have, it's how good you look when spending it."

For some it is having material things or even going shopping to get the material things that gives them the adrenalin rush. If there was ever a time to ask this question, this is it. With the economy the way it is; houses in foreclosure, layoffs and families cutting back...way back; how do they find happiness? I saw a family on Good Morning America last year being interviewed about loosing their home. When asked how they felt, each one in turned replied they were just happy to be together.

Some would say they are happy just to have made it to see another day or another year. I chuckle at hearing my husband's voice in years past proclaim; it's a happy day when we don't get a call that one of children is on drugs or in jail. Not that they were headed down that road. We all have our own definition of what makes us happy. Be it a mom who can slip into a bubble bath at the end of the day after taking care of the kids or having some quality time with love ones after a stressful work week.

Speaking for myself; different phases of my life brought different stages of happiness. I remember just having the touch of little hands on my face from one of my children filled my heart with happiness.

So wherever you are or whatever your situation; be happy, but never give up on where you really want to be.

  2. I agree with Trine, what a great post! I completely agree with your last line especially--while we can never physically touch the future, we can aspire to put our lives together in a way that makes us happy, no matter what those ways are. It's so important to take the time to look at what your priorities are and balance out your life accordingly--a BIG lesson that I've learned over the past few months especially.

  3. Hi Abbie! I saw your post on the Ultimate Blog Challenge FB page.

"I remember just having the touch of little hands on my face from one of my children filled my heart with happiness."

That brings back memories for me, too!

Great post! I agree with your point of view (though I also love to shop :)).

  4. I remember that quote from Real Housewives. I also remember sitting there watching and shaking my head at how materialistic it sounded.

My family has been through a lot financially in the last couple of years and my idea of happiness has definitely been redefined.

Happiness to me is having everyone home together and healthy. It's no longer about all the things I have around me, it's about who I have around me.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Following you now!
