When to walk away

The comment below was taken from a posting by one of my Facebook friends.
"An old man once said..There comes a time in life when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy.. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living!"
I really like this and thought it worth sharing!

What makes you happy?

I was looking at the Housewives of Orange County last week. I remember seeing one of the housewives saying "it's not how much money you have, it's how good you look when spending it."

For some it is having material things or even going shopping to get the material things that gives them the adrenalin rush. If there was ever a time to ask this question, this is it. With the economy the way it is; houses in foreclosure, layoffs and families cutting back...way back; how do they find happiness? I saw a family on Good Morning America last year being interviewed about loosing their home. When asked how they felt, each one in turned replied they were just happy to be together.

Some would say they are happy just to have made it to see another day or another year. I chuckle at hearing my husband's voice in years past proclaim; it's a happy day when we don't get a call that one of children is on drugs or in jail. Not that they were headed down that road. We all have our own definition of what makes us happy. Be it a mom who can slip into a bubble bath at the end of the day after taking care of the kids or having some quality time with love ones after a stressful work week.

Speaking for myself; different phases of my life brought different stages of happiness. I remember just having the touch of little hands on my face from one of my children filled my heart with happiness.

So wherever you are or whatever your situation; be happy, but never give up on where you really want to be.

No. 1 in Consumer Products and Services

Scentsy
8,094.1% Three-Year Growth
Revenue: $178.4 Million
Employees: 424
CEO: Orville Thompson

Scentsy was Orville and Heidi Thompson's last-ditch effort to avoid bankruptcy. To save their family's specialty retail business, they had spent their last $50,000 on an infomercial for car wax. It brought in $60. At a trade show, Orville met two women who were demonstrating how to use a wickless scented candle they had developed. The Thompsons soon signed a royalty agreement to sell the product. Facing $700,000 in debt, plus an obligation to pay the developers of the candles, they were forced to ramp up sales without the benefit of a loan. "We were economic lepers," Orville says. So in July 2004, the Thompsons established Scentsy as a party-plan company, similar to Tupperware, and enlisted a group of volunteers who fulfilled orders and answered phones for two years, until the company could afford to hire employees. The company now has more than 75,000 active sellers in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

'Super Harvest Moon' light show expected at sunset tonight

By Sun Sentinel/MCT

The equinox officially arrives tonight at 11:09, marking the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The full moon will also peak Wednesday night-Thursday morning, making for an extremely bright "super harvest moon."

And as an added bonus, Jupiter will appear right next to the moon.

For the first time in almost two decades, the Northern Hemisphere's autumn is beginning on the night of a full Moon. As the sun sets (7:17 p.m.), bringing summer to a close, the full Moon will rise (6:43 p.m.), heralding the start of fall. The two sources of light will mix together and should create a kind of 360-degree, summer-autumn twilight glow that is only seen on rare occasions.

Grab a pair of binoculars tonight and head outside before sunset, and you'll see a bright light in the sky.

Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, will be the closest to the earth in 47 years this week, and will dominate the night scene. It will continue to be a bright light in the sky for several more weeks.

Dr. Don Olive, associate professor at Gardner-Webb University, said about every 12 years earth and Jupiter end up on the same side of the sun.

"This time around, we will be slightly closer than normal due to the alignment of our elliptical orbits," Olive said. "This is the closest together the two planets have been since 1963."

Olive said with just a pair of binoculars you can see the planet's red spot as well as its four moons.

"It was this discovery by Galileo that was good supportive evidence that we and the other planets revolve around the sun, not the sun moving around the earth," he said.

Galileo named the moons Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

"It will be pretty," Olive said. "It will be the brightest thing near the moon for the next couple of days."

To find Jupiter, Olive said to look near the moon for the bright planet, almost three times brighter than the brightest star in the sky, Sirius.

Olive said Uranus will also be at its closest to earth but a pair of binoculars will be needed to see the much fainter planet.

"Look for an emerald-colored disk near Jupiter just beneath the full harvest moon on Sept. 22," he said.

CNN, NASA.gov and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Super Woman

Wow, has it been a busy few weeks...and the Holidays are not even here yet! What will I do then? I need to get a hold of myself and prioritize.

New products, book shows, need to share, need to learn, life, family... Calgon take me way! OK, I'm taking a deep breath. I can do this. Make a list, check my list, add more and more to the list...stop the madness. Do you ever feel this way. Seems like things are just, well, a little chaotic?

I know there is a quote in the bible, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Who said I need to do all thing? Should it say "I can do the things I can do?" I cannot do all thing or be all things, only try my best to accomplish what I can. Gotta tell myself this or you'll be visiting me in the padded cell. Why do I feel like I need to be super woman? Who told me that? I never heard it from my Mom. It was never taught to me in school. Where did I get this idea from? Hmm...

Need to go back to simpler times. Maybe not simpler times, just the time when I was in more control of things. Let's see, what time was that and what did I do then?

I was 40 and going to college for the first time. I wanted to become a chef and thought I would make it happen. How did I do it? My neighbor and friend Mary Jett who is in the HR field shared some good advice with me. She said she uses a day planner, writes down what has to be accomplished daily. At the end of her day (laying in bed) she reviews the day that was at hand. She would ask herself if all was accomplished. What came next blew me away. Hold on to your seat, this will shock you. Whatever was not accomplish was put on the next day's to-do list. Can you believe that? Put off for the next day? Believe it or not this got me through and I even finished an 18 month program in 15 month and graduated with honors.

I don't know about you, but I really needed this! If it worked then, it will sure work now!

“Say Thank You” Thursday

Say a simple “thank you” today to people who have touched your life.

• Write a nice note on the back of your restaurant bill for your waitperson.

• Call your friend to say thanks for their support

• Invite a friend to go on a walk and tell them how their friendship has changed your life.

• Email a coworker who has helped you in your career and tell them what their support has meant to you.

• Post a short gratitude list on your Facebook wall, or post something nice on someone else’s wall.

• Send a kind note or email to another Consultant you don’t know well.

• Have a family thank you note evening! Make homemade thank you cards with your children, and send them to those you care about “just because.”

• Send thank you notes to members of the military stationed overseas. Have your children color pictures and send them, too.

• Cut out ten hearts and leave them on ten cars in your neighborhood.
